BNB fell about 8% after Binance said on 29 Oct that hackers stole about $6.3 billion of client assets, the largest crypto theft on record, and US authorities linked the attack to North Korea's TraderTraitor group. Binance froze about $2.85 billion and says it has covered about 98% of the affected tokens with company funds.
Withdrawals restarted on 1 Nov, with $4.65 billion paid out on the first day, and on 2 Nov Binance published a zero-knowledge proof of reserves for ten major tokens, including BTC, ETH, USDT and BNB, showing at least 1:1 backing. The hackers are laundering part of the funds through THORChain. BNB is the token of Binance's own blockchain and gives fee discounts on the exchange, so its price depends on trust in Binance.
